Segar’s Legacy Event Center, formerly known as Jazzy J’s, is a business that thrives on the concept of family and togetherness. Jean and the late James Segar shared a vision for creating a meeting space that gave residents of the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, and beyond a place where all were welcomed to share a meal and to create memories.

This vision is one that was passed down to them by their families, decades prior. Jean, a city girl from Baltimore, MD, visited Essex County during the summer months to spend time with family. During one of her many trips to Virginia, she met and fell in love with James, a beloved local. The two married and united their large families by hosting weekly gatherings at their home. Their home was small, but their hearts were large. In 1988, Jean and James, “Mr. and Mrs. Jazzy” as they came to be known, opened their first entertainment venue in Richmond County, VA in 1989. Later in 1993, Jean and James opened this facility with the intention of continuing their traditions on a larger scale, embracing each person who entered in as an extended member of the family.

From start to finish, it is the desire of the staff here at Segar’s Legacy Event Center to craft an experience for you that lives up to the legacy that our founders began.
